Data-protection grievances
If you believe your data has been mishandled, raise a grievance. It is tracked against a service level and can be escalated to the Board.
How to raise a grievance
You do not need an account, a working sign-in, or a smartphone. Use whichever of these is easiest for you.
- In writing
- Post or email the grievance officer. The address is published in the privacy notice and is not behind a sign-in.
- By phone
- The IVR line accepts grievances in every interface language and records them.
- By SMS or WhatsApp
- Send the word GRIEVANCE and you will be called back.
- In person
- Any accredited assessment centre or district facility can record a grievance on your behalf and must give you the reference.
Raising a grievance is free and it is never a reason for anything on your record to change.
Is this a grievance or an appeal?
They are different routes and the difference matters, so it is stated rather than left for you to guess.
- An appeal contests a decision about you — a score, an item, an invalidation, a denied accommodation, or the way the band scheme itself was built. It has a published service level and a named decision-maker. File an appeal
- A grievance is about how your DATA has been handled — a consent you did not give, a withdrawal that did not take effect, a notice served in a language you cannot read, or an erasure that did not do what it said.
If you are not sure which one you have, raise it as a grievance. It will be routed to the right place for you rather than returned.
